EXPANSION OF INDUSTRIES

Hindustan Zinc Ltd. Chaderiya : Undergoing expansion to increase capacity from 400,000 TPA of Zinc to 600,000 TPA at its Chaderiya Lead Zinc Smelter. It will be the Single Largest Zinc Smelter Plant of the World. Total cost of the expansion is around Rs.1600 Crores & is scheduled to be completed by Sep '07. Secure Meters Ltd. Udaipur : Going global, has acquired AEMS of U.K. & CEWE of Sweden. Setting up a new plant in Kaladwas, Udaipur that will increase employee strength from 900 to 1800. Company has further decided to extend air travel entitlement to lower level of employees as well.

Wolkem India Ltd. Udaipur : World's largest producer of Wolastonite and India's largest producer of Calcide.

Vikram Cement Works, Neemuch : Planning to expand capacity at the projected cost of Rs.150 crores. Project is likely to be completed by June '07.

Rajasthan State Industrial Development & Investment Corporation Ltd. : There is a proposal to set up an SEZ for Marble Industry at a project cost of Rs. 500 crores.

Sangam India Ltd. Bhilwara : Setting up a new Textile plant at a projected cost of Rs.500 crores in Raila near Bhilwara. Project is scheduled to be completed by October 06.

Nitin Spinners Ltd. Bhilwara : Expanding capacity from 38,000 spindles to 90,000 spindles at a projected cost of Rs.208 crores.

R.K. Marbles (P) Ltd. : Established in 1989 by Patni Group. By producing a 1,048,994 tonnes of marble in the year 2002, R.K. Marble Private Limited has been honoured by "The Guiness Book" for being the world's largest producer of marble. They have started marble mining at Majoli in Madhya Pradesh, which has been a breeding ground for the world's chosen 'Wonder Marble.

RETAIL INDUSTRY

The profusion of souvenirs from Udaipur can be easily seen in the variety & number of Handicrafts from Shilpgram or Hathipole and miniature paintings - an offshoot of the Mewar school which are prized items from Udaipur. Small shops selling tie and dye fabrics, brightly coloured toys, pichwais, ornamental swords, enamel & silver jewellery and terracotta (a variety of clay pottery) apart from being highly regarded export goods are the 'must buys' here.
